Delhi Dynamos defeated FC Goa 1-0 in the first leg of the first semifinal in Indian Super League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on Friday night. A lonely effort from Robin Singh in the 42nd minute will lead a one goal advantage for the home team when they move onto the second leg.
Robert Carlos made unexpected changes to his side as the four usual starters dropped back for the first leg semifinal. Zodiligliana Tochhawng, Souvik Chakraborty, Hans Mulder and Seimlen Doungel were committed as reserve players. Shylo Malsawmtluanga, Robert Lalthlamuana, Sehnaj Singh and Gustavo Dos Santos started the game in Brazilian’s style4-4-1-1.
Romeo Fernandes once again lost his place in FC Goa’s starting lineup. Zico made a lot of changes as Laxmikant Kattimani, Raju Gaikwad, Narayan Das, Gregory Arnolin, Leo Moura and C. Sabeeth in place of Elinton Andrade, Debabrate Roy, Bikramjit Singh, Denson Devadas, Mandar Rao Desai and Dudu Omagbemi.
The first chance occurred for the home team in the fourth minute while Dos Santos ran down towards right and with Narayan Das clearance gave way for the Malouda whose shot went deflected over the bars. After seven minutes, Goa found the gap in Delhi defense from the right Joffre gone past the Sehnaj, to pass the ball to Sabeeth who could not utilized the chance.
Dos Santos keep on troubling the Goa’s defense with his fast movements and in the 19th minute he had hit the first aimed shot towards the goal but the Indian goalkeeper was well strong in his zone. The away team done its first change in 33rd minute with a fast approach as Romeo was taken in place of Raju.
The moment the people are waiting came at 42nd minute. Dos Santos went through the defense laced by Narayan Das and played it back towards the Robin who set it for a goal and taken the first goal to home. While little later from the start of second half as Goa acquired a chance from Joffre’s free kick from the back of Reinaldo’s and fell towards Sabeeth but he could not make it. Das Santos Vigorous running with the ball full length field until Nabi, who adversed the whole effort arrived.
Almost an hour Delhi had chances of double their goal lead. Dos Santos and Nabi combined finding the Shylo through the gapped left defense. The attempt to find the far edge missed completely by all the efforts and went on unsatisfying. Shylo once again came up with action as he played a ball through the legs of the defender Pronay Halder for Malouda and went on missing and eventually ended hitting the net side.
In the 74th minute Goa had the first hit towards the target. This is due to Romeo passed the ball back to the Moura whose first intense shot was blocked by Doblas. Kattimani served a top block at 84th minute. Dos Santos found his way into the box crossing three defenders and his shot from the left foot was palm deviated by the FC Goa goalkeeper. Three minutes later to this Rafael passed for Moura who forced the hit over the crossbars.
Dynamos registered their first ever win against FC Goa. The teams will be fighting for their chances in the finals in the return leg. The two teams have to find a solution to their efforts which led to a single goal game.
